Powerlines

Take me up on an airplane flight,
Crusin' through the gentle air,
Jet streams raining daffodils,
Snow storms paying off my fares,
Winter coats have rust to thaw,
My shoulders slouched in memories,
Hearing airplanes tear through clouds,
Living under the world's debris,
The streets are filled with broken glass,
I pick up a discarded map,
Torn by reckless hands then let go,
Being drenched by rains it tried to flap,
I hold it now to shelter me,
Windows fogged the impending crash,
Heaven remains a far off place,
When planes disappear and leave a gash

Heartfelt words in yesterday's news
Inks flood deep onto crowded streets,
Drops of rain painting photographs,
Footprints forge cracks in concrete,
Cigarette butts rupture the air,
Clouds take the form of petroglyphs,
Matches struck against frozen walls,
Can't tell me when the sun will lift,
News print thrown in with the flame,
The winds catch ashes that burn out,
Power lines crashing to the ground,
Angels shrivel in eternal bouts,
Fireflies seek escape from jars,
Sparks heat gloves facing the fire,
Dropping phone lines clinched like knives,
When a heartfelt warmth expires

Fog glows red like a lover's heart,
The air's grown cold this pitch black night,
Weary bird from the phone line flies,
No longer has the sense of sight,
There it flies over blinding clouds,
And sees a world it's never seen,
And airplane caught in puppet strings,
The hands that caused the world to spin,
Paper planes wilt oleander,
Crumpled pages hide crouching beasts,
Tender is the flesh that's torn,
By the fangs of wolves barred and fleeced,
Look what hung from the power lines,
Worn out shoes without their strings,
Next to my feet on the freezing ground,
From his nest a bird begins to sing
